Recommendation to the SEC regarding Women’s Leadership Team
Passed by the SEC 4/23/2012, Amended 6/18/2012
At a Session meeting in August 2011 the Session affirmed the gifts
and calling of women within the church to labor in serving the
church body short of being ordained as Deacons or Elders. The past
Women’s Leadership Team that was presented to the congregation
were appointed and not nominated from the congregation. The
Scriptures speak of leaders within the church who are Elders
(Overseers), Deacons and Women (or Wives) and this requires them
to be tested (1 Timothy 3:2-13 esp. v. 10).
Recommendations:
1. This next class of Servant Leadership Training for Deacons
and Elders that we open up recommendations from the
congregation to women who would serve on a Women’s
Leadership Team (WLT). These women would go through
the training and interview process along with men who are
recommended. The Servant Leadership Development
Committee (SLDC) would put names of women who have
gone through the training before the SEC and Session to be
nominated to serve on the WLT. Those approved by the SEC
and Session would then be placed before the congregation
for vote to serve on the WLT. The women of the WLT would
assist Deacons, Elders and Staff in caring out their calling
and responsibilities to Christ Community Church.
2. Women from the Women’s Leadership Team will be added to the SEC, Session and Diaconate as advisory participants and to ministry teams as full partners.
Women in Ministry at Christ Community Church
Adopted by the Christ Community Church Session August 18, 2011
Men and women are equal image bearers of God and share equality in
dignity and worth before God and one another. Also both women and men
share an equal need for the saving grace found in the Gospel of Jesus
Christ. Through the Holy Spirit men and women are to exercise the full
range of their spiritual gifts in the church. There are no gifts of the Spirit
that are to be exclusively exercised by men; meaning women and men are
to be real partners in ministry.
Therefore, within Christ Community Church women may join and
participate in any ministry responsibilities except those distinctive to the
ordained offices of Elder and Deacon as described in the Presbyterian
Church in America (PCA) Book of Church Order (BCO). We believe the
Bible teaches that God has entrusted authoritative teaching (including
preaching), administering of the sacraments and the responsibilities of
church discipline to the Session (consists of Ruling Elders elected by the
congregation and ordained Pastors called by the congregation to serve the
church).
Christ Community Church is committed to equip and deploy women
into multiple arenas of leadership and service including Bible teaching,
leading small groups, serving on the various church ministry teams,
assisting in mercy ministry and by any other means to enable them to fully
exercise their gifts for the greater benefit of Christ’s body and the advancing
of God’s kingdom.
